How often should I have my dog groomed?
It all depends on the type of coat your dog has. Lets say you have a dog that has a high maintenance coat (Poodles, Bichons, Yorkies, Maltese, Shih-tzu), you’re going to want to get these guys groomed every 4-6 weeks. You will also want to keep up with brushing them every other day or so because matts (oversized tangles) can pop up in no time and are difficult to remove.
Maybe you’re more of a terrier person (Westies, Scotties, Schnauzers, Carins). A terrier’s coat is a little more durable and wiry, so they can go for 6-8 weeks until they’re due for another grooming. Still, keep up with brushing these guys about once or twice a week.
For double coated dogs (Labs, Goldens, Shelties, Huskys, Akitas, Chows, and the list goes on), they’re good for about 8 weeks. When I say “double coated” I mean the dogs that have a soft, fluffy undercoat and coarse top coat. The biggest problem you’re going to run into with these breeds is the undercoat. If its not brushed out frequently enough it becomes more and more painful to remove. To keep shedding to a minimum, you should brush them every other day. Once or twice a week is still acceptable though.
